We not only had a magnificent time on the West Coast, but our accommodation and the hospitality at Whispering Whale was equally enjoyable and exceptional.  To the people who will be reading the feedback – “book and experience true West Coast hospitality , fantastic accommodation, and most of all the beauty of an under rated area of this beautiful country, South Africa. Whispering Whale was a perfect introduction for me to the West Coast.  Modern luxury accommodation, with nothing wanting.  A Manageress, Leentjie, who attends to your every need and to top it all is a chef par excellence!!.  
 
We have changed our minds about the West Coast and we are seriously looking to buy property in St. Helena Bay.

The Whispering Whale is situated in a naturally beautiful West Coast landscape, amongst scattered white fisherman style homes, separated by myriads of green belts allowing abundant bird and small mammal life (with Langebaan’s nature reserve only 20 min away) — a bird watcher’s dream.

The accommodation is spacious, practical and elegant, with a very well equipped kitchen for the self-caterer although the very helpful and knowledgeable caretaker also prepares food on request.

Apologies for only getting back to you now. Our stay was FANTASTIC! Both Jacqui and I were completely overwhelmed by the furnishings and all the extras that were made available to us – it’s by far the best accommodation we have had the pleasure of experiencing – and we’ve been to some really good places before.

We found everything so beautifully clean and spotless!

Lynne, Leentjie told us (and she is a great choice as Manageress by the way – just superb!) that you had done all the decorating. Well – I’m not sure what you do now, but if there is a quality interior decorator looking for someone to increase their business, they wouldn’t have further to look than yourself! Each of the rooms (including the kitchen) would not look out of place in any of the top interior decorating magazines – we take our hats off to you!

Next time we are in the area, we would love to make use of WW again – if you will have us. Thank you so much for your very generous offer of the Humpback Whale apartment at such a special price – we really do appreciate it!

Home away from home!

Leentjie, the manageress, made us feel welcome from the second we arrived & was very accommodating - even assisting us with dinner reservations at a local eatery. Like stepping back in time... I am still dreaming about our stay at Whispering Whale. Located in the unique village of Jacobsbaai, we felt like we were in the lap of luxury in our apartment. It was quite a treat for us, after a month on the road, to feel as though we were at home. We were able to have a braai and make our own meals in the well-equipped kitchen, and slept very well in the spacious bedroom. The village of Jacobsbaai is very special, with its white houses and sand roads. On our last night we were treated to a magnificent sunset. We could see ourselves staying here comfortably for a month, as there are many things to explore in the area. But it is also just a restful place to relax and watch the sea. A huge thank you to Lynne and Kobus and also to Leentjie for her warm hospitality. This is a very special place, and one of the most memorable places we stayed in our 6 weeks in South Africa. We are already recommending WW to friends!

Staying at the Whispering Whale (Brydes Whale) was like arriving home! The accommodation is spacious and the fittings and furniture luxurious and beautiful. The patio offers a fantastic view on the beautiful Atlantic ocean! The kitchen is big and has every pot, pan, bowl and knife you may need! The king size bed was great and the atmosphere in the town made for a

We spent the most perfect 40th Anniversary in magnificent conditions.

The apartment was up to standard, in every way possible.

The jewel, of Jacobsbaai, however, for us, was Leentjie, your Manageress, who proved to be a MASTERCHEF. She was also very helpful, yet discreet very efficient.

Hi Lynne!

WOW - we've enjoyed ourselves to the limit!  You have a WONDERFUL place and it's beautifully decorated with everything one needs!

Leentjie is a GREAT hostess and cook!

We did a "recce" and drove up to Lamberts Bay and returned home via Elands, Brittania- and St. Helena Bay, but we came to the conclusion that there's no place like Jacobsbaai!!

Just back in Jhb from the Cape - just wanted to let you know we really enjoyed or stay in JacobsBaai. Wished we could have made our stay longer. In particular enjoyed the tranquility and wildness of the setting, yet most of what one could possibly need for "self-catering" was accessible within a 15km radius. The apartment was very comfortable and clean and had those special touches which makes a stay more enjoyable!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Whispering Whale. It was just what I needed for a reflection of my half-century in years.
 
It took me 2 days to get comfortable with the condition: it is too posh, too clean & too neat! And once we tried Leentjie’s fare.. well, nothing else could beat it! Your personal interest in the bookings & dealing with guests was a very welcome change. Getting up and down the stairs was NO problem – especially when we saw the space & condition of the place. I sommer started taking pictures of EVERYTHING!!

Thank you for allowing us to share the Whispering Whale. We will spread the word – but to only those that we believe would take care of it as though it were their own!

We arrived at Whispering Whale cottage in the evening and the very helpful caretaker , Lientjie , welcomed us and showed us to our Humpback Whale apartment, which is on the top floor. This suite offers more than enough space for two people, and still sufficient for four and it is very well equipped. It even has a parmesan grater, heated towel rails and a sieve for cooking! We really had a wonderful time, sleeping in and reading most of the time, and will surely be back again!

Words cannot describe my wonderful stay at the Whispering Whale. I left feeling completely relaxed. Apart from the excellent facilities, the position of the Whispering Whale is ideal – I was treated to the most amazing sunsets over the Atlantic. One of the best evenings was a braai on the patio watching the sun set at 8.00pm!
 
Also, having never been to Jacobs Baai, I was amazed at the undeveloped beauty of the place. I saw owls, mongoose and field mice amongst other animals.
 
Your manageress being on long leave did not present any problem. The unit was clean and everything was in excellent working order.
 
I will most definitely be back for another visit.

It was good to meet you and Kobus at the end of last year; you both seem such kind and friendly people. I trust that your stay in Jacobsbaai was as good as ours. Getting to know the W est Coast [just a little], was an introduction to a totally different world. I don’t think many South Africans realize how privileged we are; our country is truly diverse and so very beautiful.
 
Our stay at the Whispering Whale was a real treat. It exceeded our expectations in all regards. The sleeping and living areas are spacious, immaculately clean and exceptionally well organised. Everything has been thought of; from toilet extract fans to matches to light the fire. [I’m not even that organised in my own home]. Your Manageress is very professional; genuinely friendly and caring. All of these things leave you without anything distractions; you are compelled to relax and enjoy your time in the very beautiful Jacobsbaai.

The Humpback suite was lovely and luxurious, with everything available to us.  We enjoyed being there and watching and listening to the ocean.  It was a treat having Leentjie bring delicious food to us and whisk the dishes away afterwards.  Perhaps we enjoyed the food too much so we hope the long walks we took have burnt off those calories.  Whispering Whale is certainly a place we could recommend to anyone going up that way.

Just to say we enjoyed our second visit to Whispering Whale just as much as the first time! We are safely home in Uitenhage again and have plenty of photo's to remind us of the beautiful West Coast. The wreck of those barges was an added interest, but we do hope they may be able to remove them eventually as Jacobsbaai is so unspoilt.

Bronwyn and I had an absolutely fantastic weekend away in Jacobsbaai - thank you! We were very lucky with two beautiful days of sunshine.

I was most impressed with the efficiency of the booking process and the organisation generally. As an example, Leentjie was there to greet us before we had even got out of the car!

The personal touches like the personalised greeting card and the complimentary wine and fruit made us feel very much at home.

The apartment is also very well kitted-out with everything that we could have wanted.

First of all , the photos on your website do not really do the place justice.  We were pleasantly surprised.  My guests ( a Dutch couple), stayed in the Humpback Whale apartment on the 22nd of April 2009. We stepped into a very luxurious place and could  not believe what we got for the price we had paid! If the Humpback Whale apartment is anything to go by, then your other apartments surely must be just as good.  The apartment attended to all their needs and more.  The house has a very distinguished West Coast feel to it.  I will definitely bring my future guests to come and stay for a day or two.

Dan and I really had a fabulous weekend and felt thoroughly spoilt. The apartment was luxurious and huge (bigger than our own house) but stunning. We had everything that we needed. We spent a lot of time walking, exploring and shell hunting!!
 
My in-laws will be back in SA in November and we would really love to bring them up to Jacobsbaai to relax and enjoy the beautiful town that it is.

Our recent stay in your southern right unit was excellent! Leentjie’s catering and the relaxing, well decorated accommodation and brilliant location are an amazing combination. On a trip to the West Coast national park we were fortunate to see almost all the large wildlife there, oryx, eland, bontebok, wildebeest etc & two very large puff adders.

We have recommended the location to all who are looking for a relaxing break up the west coast.

Good morning Lynne

Just wanted to let you know we had a wonderful break at the Bryde's Whale Cottage - such a wonderful setting and the cottage itself was so comfortable and well equipped - even down to the sachet of filter coffee - its amazing how these small touches just make it so special. We were worried we were going to be cold and had hoped for a log fire, but as it happens we were plenty warm enough and were able to sit outside on the stoep with a roaring fire in the braai watching a most fantastic african sunset. I hope Jacobsbaai remains the unspoilt village it is, as I see there is quite a lot of development taking place. We took a drive to Paternoster, not having been there for about 4 years, and could not believe the change, and Langebaan is like a little metropolis now.

We would definitely recommend the accommodation and hope to go back in the not too distant future.

Hi Lynne

I'd like to thank you and Leentjie for an amazing time spent at both the Southern Right and Humpback Whale. I cannot begin to describe the tranquility the place brings. I so wished I could stay there longer. The interior decoration of the place is stunning and brings this feeling of calm and warmness. Leentjie's cooking is amazing and beats any restaurant in the vicinity. I haven't had such melt in the mouth prawns in a while.

Everything at Whispering Whale has been breathtaking, the warm welcome, the view, the personalised service, the accomodation (oh my....I was taken aback).

When you walk in the first time, you get the sense of calm and know that alot of time, effort and love was invested there. 7 stars from me. I have been around the world, stayed in nice hotels but this was the cherry on the top. I would definitely be back and already raving about your place to friends and colleagues about it.

Thank you so much for the excellent customer service in re-arranging my booking, for exceeding the customer expectation by going that extra mile for me. I truly appreciate it.

I will definitely be in touch with you for my next break-away from the craziness when on holiday.

Ons wil net weereens dankie sê vir die wonderlike voorreg wat ons gehad he tom by Whispering Whales te kon oorbly.Vir ons was dit regtig ‘n ruskans wat ons albei baie nodig gehad het. My gesondheid het regtig verbeter, en ek sien vir die eerste keer in baie weke uit om met my werk te kan voortgaan.

Ek sien die spesialis weer die 17de Julie.Hy was bekommerd oor my werksituasie, maar my lewe word soveel verryk deur wat ek doen, dat ek my nie kan voorsstel dat ek nie meer betrokke kan wees om in die gemeenskap te werk nie.

Whispeing Whales sal altyd in my geheue ‘n baie spesiale plek wees,en ons is so bly dat ons julle so kon ontmoet. Dankie vir al die SMS boodskappe terwyl ek in die Hospitaal was,asook vir die puik reëlings.

Ons is ook bederf met 2 aande se heerlike etes wat deur Leentjie voorberei is. Sy is ‘n kok duisend!!!!!!!!!

Ons hoop om weer terug te gaan na Jacobsbaai met sy rustigheid en natuurskoon. Van al die plekke in die Weskus is dit maar net die beste!!!!!!!!

Hi Kobus and Lynne,

I can’t describe in words the wonderful time we had at Whispering Whale. It’s the perfect retreat from city life both during winter and summer as everything you could possible need is seen to. The comfort we experienced is really a home away from home, and I can honestly say that just didn’t want the weekend to end!

We have already recommended WW to our parents especially as well as most of our friends.

Thank you so much for seeing to every little detail. We enjoyed ourselves tremendously and hope to come back again.

I hope you are well. We stayed at the Southern Right Whale end April for a few days. I would like to thank you for a wonderful relaxing weekend. We enjoyed it a lot and will definitely go back there to re-charge. It is wonderful to see that you still get places where there is no traffic and quietness that people in cities can only dream of.

Many thanks; we had a wonderful time at Whispering Whale. The apartment is stunning; perfectly equipped and the location is beautiful. We went for long walks, bought fresh crayfish and just totally relaxed and unwound.

Our stay was absolutely perfect and we will definitely return!! But of course only when we can send the kids away J (we have 2, aged 13 and 9).

Just to say that we arrived home safely on the Welsh coast on Thursday (27th March) after an uneventful flight and long drive home. We thoroughly enjoyed all our SA adventure and are already thinking about a 3rd trip as we failed to see any of the cats this time, i.e. lions, leopards and cheetahs. Almost being charged by a white rhino perhaps made up for that! We really enjoyed our few days in your splendid apartment in Jacobsbaai, which is certainly a beautiful part of SA and so totally different from the other environments we were in - the Kruger, Swaziland, Kwa-Zulu Natal and the Winelands. The only place where we actually felt cool, when the wind blew. Reminded us a little of parts of the UK, especially the Scottish Islands. Weather here is cold (10 to 13C), or at any rate it feels cold to us after the warmth, sun and brightness of SA, and wet (in fact it has just hailed!). We had a splendid seafood platter cooked by Leentjie, especially the calamari, whilst the crayfish was delicious.

Jacobsbaai is blessed by having spectacular West Coast sunsets over its secluded beaches and The Whispering Whale guest house – a perfect combination! I knew immediately that this was the place where I wanted to get engaged.

Even though I am a certified catch for any woman, there was no way I was going to leave anything to chance. I had a list of romantic touches that I wanted in place and Lynne (with her excellent team) enthusiastically carried this out with meticulous attention to detail.

We had a fabulous time during our stay in this beautiful guesthouse and my wife and I genuinely look forward to our next visit.

Val & I as you know have spent a number of week-ends in all three of your self catering apartments, and we can truthfully say that we have enjoyed every minute in each. We are drawn to keep on returning to Jacob’s Bay and in particular the “Whispering Whale” because of it’s exclusivity, peaceful environment to relax, superb quality of the furnished, self catering apartments, and of course the opportunity to enjoy the availability of Leentjie’s superb home cooking when required. For us your Whispering Whale guest apartments are simply our “home away from home”.

Thats a shame - we have become quite dedicated to the Whispering Whale and have not found may other places that compare. I wish you well with the building works and with the deadline.

I am sure we will back later in the year - its a wonderful winter choice for us also.
